Q.1171 Wrong date of birth on OCI Registration. How to correct?
Question: Dear Sir,
I am a 78 year old lady with Canadian Passport. I had obtained OCI on 08/05/2007. Recently, I came to India. When I
showed my OCI card at the Delhi Airport, the immigration officer pointed out a mistake in my OCI Certificate of
Registration. (Date of issue: 30/11/2006). My date of birth was mentioned as 17/10/2006 instead of my actual date of
birth, which is 17/10/1940. This can be verified from my Passport. Obviously, this is a clerical mistake and so the
Immigration Officer advised me to get my date of birth corrected.
I request you to please let me know what steps I should take for getting the correction made. What is the fee for this and
how I should apply and what documents I have to submit and at what address I should send my application.

Answer: Corrections to OCI Certificate of Registration [OCI booklet] can be made through the facilities provided under
OCI Miscellaneous Services. Generally a fee is charged for some services such as replacement of OCI documents in case
of loss etc. However there is no fee if the change requested is of the applicant’s personal particulars due to mistake by
the authorities. Apparently this appears to be the case in your situation where the date of birth year has not been
entered correctly by mistake. So you may not have to pay a fee to get your year of birth corrected on your OCI documents.
You may not be familiar with OCI Misc Services, so here is some more information of what this is and how to go about
using this service to request changes to OCI documents.
What is OCI Miscellaneous Services?
This is a process specified by the authorities for those who already hold OCI status and need to make changes to their OCI
records. Services can be availed in the following category of cases:

The request changes through OCI Misc Services:

The first step is to go online to the OCI Miscellaneous website.

Fill the required information to verify your identification so you can access the form
3.
Fill the application form and submit.
4.
After submission of the online application, a copy the application form should be printed with an online registration
number. This application form along with all relevant documents required and fee if applicable; should be submitted
to the Indian Mission that serves your jurisdiction. Applicant. In India applicants should contact the FRRO.
