Q.1215 Nativity certificate for a person who is no longer living
Question: Hi
Im a Malaysian applying for OCI where i don't have any document to proof that my mother was an Indian.
She never had travelled and didn't have any identity doc except the Ration card.
The embassy here advised me to get the nativity certificate for her to establish her Indian identity, however the Tamil
Nadu e-service only provide such certificate for a live person.
So, how we can acquire a "Nativity Certificate" for a person who died?
Note: I was born in India btw.
Thanks.
Answer: If as you state in your email that you were born in India and if you know the place of your birth such as city,
hospital etc. then you may be able to get some information from:
•
The municipal office in the city of your birth where birth registrations are recorded. They may have some kind of
record.
•
If you ever went to school in India then you may be able to find some record of yourself and your parents from the
school authorities.
Gather as much information as you can get and present it to the authorities along with an affidavit of your being born
in India. Perhaps it would help resolve the issue of your being of Indian origin.
