147. Surrender Indian Passport Fee

Q. hi i am kailasben i just want to know that if my passport is expired on November 3rd 2001 do i still need to pay penalty because i read that if your passport is expired before 31st December there is no penalty. A. Passport surrender fee is not based on when your Indian passport expired but when you acquired foreign citizenship. Simple clarification: 1. For those who acquired foreign citizenship on or before May 31, 2010 and have a 'canceled' stamp on your passport, then there is no fee requirement as no further action is required. 2. Those who acquired foreign citizenship on or before May 31, 2010 and do NOT have a 'canceled' stamp on their old Indian passports, then they require a 'Surrender certificate' for which the fee is only US$20/ 3. Those who acquired foreign citizenship on or after June 1, 2010 are required to pay the full fee of US$175/ to get 'Renunciation & Surrender Certificate' Assuming that you got foreign citizenship before May 31, 2010 and your old Indian passport has a 'Cancel' stamp then you need not pay any fee. However if you do not have the 'Cancel' stamp then you need to pay $20 to get a Surrender certificate.
