157. Apply for Pan Card from USA

Q. Mr. Chand, Thanks for your reply. I had two more questions, if you could kindly clarify: 1) As an NRI applying on-line from the U.S.A, can I make the payment using a State Bank of India atm-cum-debit card issued on my NRO account in a State Bank of India branch in Bangalore. I cannot use the card here in the U.S., but am able to make on-line payments for some bills, etc. in India, by using it. I wasn't sure if the PAN card authorities would accept this card in payment for the PAN card fees. 2) I have paid Indian income taxes before 1980, and was living in Chennai at that time. Now my parents are in my home town of Kottayam, in Kerala, and that is going to be my home base as well. How will I find out the AO (assessing officer) to be entered in the PAN card application? I was looking at the wards/ranges from the application form's non-international listings, but could not find my home adddress area or location listed under Kottayam. regards, John A. When applying for a Pan card from outside India you cannot use a credit or debit card. Payment can be made only by Demand Draft payable at Mumbai. For question number 2. kindly read the answer to question number 155 on the previous page.
