Q: Dear Mr Chand, I am have Australian citizenship and also hold a OCI I am traveling to India soon ,I have some money in India from the proceeds of my land ,which I am thinking of converting in Aus $ and bring back how much foreign currency I can carry while traveling from India back to Australia. regards Chandan A. There is no restriction on the amount of money that can be taken out from India by travelers. The only requirement is that a declaration is required if the amount carried exceeds US$ 5000 in cash or more than US$ 10,000 (cash + other forms such as travelers cheques, bank drafts etc) Passengers should be able to convince the customs officer at the departure point that the money is indeed legally acquired in case they are questioned about the source of the money.
