258. School fee in India for Nri children

Q: Hello Mr Chand, Greetings! I am a Surgeon in Uk. I am planning to get my British citizenship & OCI card. But my wife planning to keep her Indian citizenship & hence Indian passport. My daughter will be holding Indian passport. So my question is Will my daughter get all the rights as any other Indian child- education, buying agriculture lands etc.. or will it affect her because I am a British? Thank you very much! With kind regards, A. As long as your daughter holds a Indian passport she should be treated at par with Indian citizens. You don't mention your daughters age, if she is the age of majority, parents citizenship would not affect her. I would like to also add that depending on the school you select, some schools may classify a child whose parents are permanently residing abroad as an NRI child and charge additional fees. There are actually no formal guidelines for this and schools are free to follow what ever fee setup they wish, unless of course they are government schools. Regards to buying agricultural lands, it would depend on which State in India she intends to buy agricultural land as many State governments do not allow non farmers to purchase agricultural land in their States. Such restrictions apply even to Indian citizens.
