374. Advantages of giving birth in India or United States

Q: Hi Got to know about this mail address from internet. I am currently in US since last 2 years working for Indian company. My wife is pregnant and expecting a baby in June. I am little confused about having her delivery here. Can you help in this? Neither I have long term plans in US nor for green card. I just wish to stay here for 2-3 more years and go back to India. So is it beneficial to have delivery here?? What kind of benefits we get if baby is born in India....and what are the disadvantages if we are planning this baby’s(borned in US) education in India. You help and advice is appreciated. Thanks Vishal Gandhi A. If your child is born in the United States, the baby will become a US Citizen. Even if you get an Indian passport for your child and return to India, your child, when reaching the age of majority, may be able to get a US passport. In other words, the door to the United States will always be open for your child, if birth is in the United States. If born in India, you will have the benefit of having perhaps friends and family around at the time of birth. Your child will be an Indian citizen and require the appropriate visas to visit the United States. You may consider: Baby birth in USA Not apply for a US passport for the baby Register birth of child at the Indian Consulate near you and apply for an Indian passport. This way, your child will be holding an Indian passport and study will not be affected in India. Furthermore, if your child wishes when reaching the age of majority to come to the USA, this will be possible as the child would have claim to US citizenship. When attending universities and colleges in the United States, having US citizenship can save you a lot of $$$!
