494. PIO/OCI required to sell property in Goa?

Questions: My mother is in India and wants to sell her flat, she is a Indian Citizen. Her lawyer asked me ( as i am in UK and a British citizen of Indian origin) to send a POA attested by the UK Indian embassy that I have no objections to my mom selling her flat. 1. I have send her the POA 2. now they are asking me for OCI/PIO. I dont have OCI and dont wish to get one as its expensive.. Why cant my mom sell her flat????? is the big questions .. I am very frustrated with the Goan systems. The flat belong to my mom... I am just her daughter...is there any lawyer in Goa that can help us without OCI. pls help me with advise. Pearl. Answer: A power of Attorney (POA) is authorization for a person to act on your behalf to do certain things as spelled out in the POA document. My question is why do you have to send a POA to your mother if she is the sole owner of the flat. A POA from you would make sense only if you were a part owner. What your lawyer may have asked for would be a no objection certificate (NOC) signed by you and attested by an Indian Consulate Official. I fail to understand the logic of you having to provide a OCI/PIO if your mother is indeed the sole owner of the flat and is an Indian citizen residing in India. I have some suggestions: Ask the lawyer why your OCI/PIO is required or Seek advice from another lawyer in Goa
