Q718. Not compulsory to re-apply for OCI is applicant got OCI at age 54

Question: Namaste! I am a 54 year old British woman, currently residing in India. I have recently applied for an OCI card - my application has been processed and my documents were dispatched to Lucknow FRRO from MOIA yesterday, 21/11/2014. My current UK passport expires in June 2015 - I will renew it when I visit the UK in the summer. I then plan to return to India in July. My question is: Will I have to re-apply for a new OCI card after getting my new passport, or can I just apply for a new U-sticker when I get back to India? I understand that upon reaching 50 years of age an OCI card holder must re-apply, but I am applying for the first time and I am already over 50. I have read conflicting versions on the internet and I am confused. Thank you so much for your help, Madhusmita Dasi Answer: Since you are getting your OCI at age 54, you need not re-apply for OCI again. Any person who gets their OCI after reaching age 50 or more, is not required to get OCI reissued. Please see question/answer number 716 where I have posted a page from the Indian Consulate that clarifies this issue. When you get your new passport, then you will have the option to: 1. Get a new OCI U visa for your new passport through OCI miscellaneous services. Or 2. If you do not wish to get new OCI U Visa for your new passport, you can travel to India by simply taking along your old passport that has the original OCI U visa pasted on it, along with your new passport. You must also carry the OCI booklet.
