Q728. OCI Visa transfer for children . . .
Question: Hi
Transferring OCI visa from old to new passport (UK citizen) for children - is it a must? Can I instead carry old passport along
with OCI book when travelling to India?
I look forward to hear from you
Kind regards
Sriranga
Answer: While it is not mandatory to transfer OCI visa to a new passport for those OCI holders between the ages of 21 to 50
years of age and they can travel to India by carrying their old expired passport with the OCI Visa along with their new passport.
Children, on the other hand must apply for fresh OCI documents each time they get a new passport.
As per current rules:
OCI registration certificate and visa have got to be re-issued each time a new passport is issued, up to the completion of 20
years of age and once after completing 50 years of age.
The reasoning behind this probably is, that physical features change the most for children as they grow and photographs etc.
need to be updated to reflect such changes.
