Sitting abroad, it is quite difficult to find someone experienced in handling NRI/OCI matters such as ours. Your help in this regard will be highly appreciated. Regards, Sumant Handa Answer: I understand your predicament. Trying to hire someone to conduct services on your behalf in India when residing thousands of miles away is indeed a problem. Quite often NRIs due to their status of being non-resident end up paying a lot more for services than local residents who can easily shop around. NRIs generally have no choice but to turn to the Internet to hire a lawyer or accountant to handle their affairs in India. Finding professional services solely on the basis of an impressive website can at times also have its drawbacks! Unfortunately, I am currently unable to recommend anyone in particular in Delhi. I would assume that many NRIs and Persons of Indian origin living abroad also at times find it difficult to locate professional help to handle their affairs in India. Perhaps NRIs who have used services of a chartered accountant, lawyer satisfactorily can share their input and help the NRI community.
