Q.907 Custom duty for gold if gold jewelry taken from India

I have brought some gold jewellery from india as i and my husband came to UK ,belfast. So, when we will be going back will there be any custom duty fees for that gold also or if i proof that the gold is bought from india only then is it ok. kavita thakur Answer: If questioned on your return to India by the Indian customs authorities, the onus would be on you to prove that the gold jewelery that you are arriving with from UK was indeed purchased from India and no customs duty should apply. When gold jewelry is taken out of India with the intention of bringing it back to India, then the Indian customs advise that passengers before leaving should get an export certificate from the customs at point of departure. The certificate will identify the passenger and the jewelry being taken. On returning to India no customs duty would then apply on the items listed in the certificate. You probably did not get an export certificate for your jewelry when leaving India, so any receipts of the jewelry purchase in India should be kept and available for inspection by customs in case they ask questions about your jewelry on your return to India.
