Q.908 Deadline for conversion of PIO to OCI passed, what now?

I just realised today that the deadline of June 30 has passed for changing my PIO card to OCI card. What can I do now, I am planning to go to India for marriage in two weeks time, do I need visa now to go to India Answer: You can still travel to India on the basis of your PIO card. Deadlines for conversion are announced perhaps to encourage people to switch as soon as possible. The June 30, 2016 deadline has been extended to December 31, 2016 now and may even be extended further by the Government of India. Even if the deadline for conversion of PIO cards to OCI expires and is not extended, PIO card holders would still be able to travel to India unless the authorities specifically announce that PIO cards are no longer valid for travel to India. Until then PIO cards will be considered to be like OCI cards by immigration officials due to the earlier notification by the Govt. that as of January 9, 2015 all PIO cards would be deemed to be OCI.
