Answer: Aadhaar card is not mandatory to open bank accounts in India and NRIs do not need to obtain Aadhaar card
to maintain an existing bank account in India.
Are you sure that the bank account you have in India is a non-resident bank account? Aadhaar card is only for
residents. Although the government of India is supposedly in the process of allowing NRIs, OCIs and perhaps PIOs to
get Aadhaar cards, no official announcement to this effect has been made so far.
Notify your bank that as a NRI you do not need an Aadhaar car to maintain NRI bank accounts in India.
