Q.919 Travel to India with PIO card
I am a British Passport holder with valid PIO card , issued in London on 09 September 2014.
I am travelling to India in September 2016 and return on 10 February 2017.
Is my PIO card sufficient for me to travel or do I need to convert my PIO to OCI now?
Will appreciate your early advise.
Many thanks
Kind regards
Sathi Bose
Answer: The existing government of India policy still allows those who hold valid PIO cards to travel to India on the
basis of their PIO card without the requirement of other Indian visas.
While it is not mandatory, those who travel to India on PIO cards can get endorsements at points of entry into India
stating that their existing PIO cards are valid for life. Immigration official would stamp such endorsements on your
entry document.
While travel to India is allowed on PIO cards, the government of India does encourage PIO card holders to convert to
OCI as soon as possible.
