Q.947 Will moving to India effect UK OCI holder’s citizenship?

Question: Hi I’m an Indian from UK, holding British citizenship and got an OCI. At some point of my life I want to move to India. Is there anything I have to do? Would it affect my citizenship? And maybe after a while in India I want to move to Dubai. Is that a problem to my visa or citizenship? My passport expire in 2023. Am I able to renew that in India itself and stay as British citizen? Waiting for your kind reply, Thanks Nishitha Satheesan Answer: Regarding your questions: OCI is a lifetime validity visa so there should be no issues on the duration of your stay in India. Having OCI status will not effect your British citizenship. British citizens are free to leave UK and settle abroad without losing their British citizenship. Moving to Dubai would not be an issue if you are able to obtain the required visas for long term stay. British citizen’s can get a 30 day visa on arrival. This type of visa can be extended for a further 30 days by visiting an immigration office in the UAE and paying an extension fee. Probationary work permit is required by those visitors who wish to work in Dubai from the Ministry of Labor. Those who wish to stay in the UAE for longer than 60 days should check with the UAE consulate in their home countries to ensure they abide by UAE entry/visa rules.
