Answer: Life Certificate required for the purpose of drawing pension in India by those who reside abroad is available
from the Indian Embassy/Consulate applicable to their country of residence. There is currently no fee for issue of life
certificate for pension purposes. [UK Indian Consulates charge £2.00 as consular service charge for issuing life
certificate.]
Indian pensioners in UK who are drawing pension from the Armed Forces can directly contact the Military Wing of the
High Commission. Their telephone number is listed as: 02076323049. If unable to reach check with the concerned
consulate for their new contact number.
Procedure to get life certificate from UK Indian Consulate
To get life certificate from Indian Consulate in UK, the procedure involves visiting the applicable UK Indian Consulate,
filling in the ‘Miscellaneous Services Application Form’. The following documents are generally required:
•
Indian Passport Holders: Valid passport in original and self-attested photocopies of first two and last two pages of
the passport.
•
Foreign Passport Holders: Valid passport in original and self-attested photocopies of the passport pages containing
personal particulars of the passport holder.
•
Proof of Residence: Any of the following self-attested documents mentioned below may suffice as proof of
residence:

Utility bill, driving license, apartment rental lease etc. where applicant’s UK address is shown. If you don’t
have any of these documents, then a notarized affidavit from a relative stating that you are residing with them
can be submitted. The relative providing the affidavit should include proof of their address along with the
notarized affidavit.

Proof of legal status in UK. [Such as visa page copy of passport]
•
Original and copy of pension book may also be required.
