Q.964 Register foreign POA in India | Where to Register POA in India
Question: Hi
I have a Power of Attorney granted by the Indian High Commission of India in the UK. I understand that I need to
register the POA in India. please can you advise which office in Mumbai I can register this document at? is there a
timescale for the POA that is valid for?
Thanks
Tania
Answer: Power of Attorney [POA] received from abroad after attestation by the Indian consulate should be registered
at the Sub Registrar Office.
This generally should be done within three months of receipt in India. Check the net and find the nearest Sub
Registrar office in Mumbai as there are several in Mumbai. However, you can go to any Sub Registrar Office. Detailed
information on POA is available in an article titled:

Try and avoid going to the Sub Registrar Office without a preset reserved appointment time slot and take acceptable
photo ID. Time slot reservations can be made on the Internet.
Use the link provided below to see the various Sub Registrar Offices in Maharashtra and try and reserve a time slot
that is free and suitable to you.

Many people hire a local lawyer to get the appointment and help at the Registrar Office. Just about every Sub
Registrar office has several such lawyers, notaries offices for those requiring help at the registration offices such as
preparing documents, getting appointments etc.
