To get a life certificate you will need to visit their attestation center. The documents generally required are your passport, filled form for life certificate and the appropriate fee. Generally pensioners apply for life certificates every year at consulates abroad. While your purpose of obtaining the life certificate is different it does not make much difference, a life certificate stamped by the Indian consulate should be valid where ever a life certificate is required in India.
