Q.1126 Type of Visa which will allow foreign born child to live and

study in India

Question: Hi, Me and my wife are living in Canada for last five year. I have finished my Ph.D. degree and presently working as a post-doc researcher at the University of Waterloo. Last year, we have a baby and she is now one year old. She has a Canadian passport by birth. We both (parents) are having an Indian passport and does not have PR card. We are hoping to move back to India by the end of 2018. My question is: what kind of visa or card my daughter will require staying in India. We are planning her schooling in India and later she can come to Canada and settle since she is a Canadian citizen. Please also suggest where should I apply. Best regards, Answer: OCI visa is a lifelong visa which will allow your daughter to stay and study in India while retaining her Canadian citizenship. Earlier if both parents of a foreign born child were Indian citizens, then the minor child was not eligible for Overseas of India Registration [OCI]. However, as of January 6, 2015 rules were relaxed to allow minor children born abroad who’s both parents are Indian citizens to be eligible for OCI.
