Q.1208 Proof of NRI Status to claim tax benefits in India
Question: Hi,
Recently I moved from U.A.E to KSA, where my new employer have given me Business Visa, as due to some issues they
are not able to issue the resident Visa to all New employees.
Now in this scenario what proof can be submitted to Banks to proof NRI/ KYC status where I am staying more than 300
days out of India to claim tax benefits.
My company told me they can provide me salary letter or any other letter.
Please advice .
With Regards,
Answer: Your passport should have exit and entry dates from India and should be acceptable proof of your being a
non resident of India for period you were out of India. Provide these dates to the tax authorities when claiming tax
benefits for NRIs in India.
