Q.1217 Applying for Aadhaar Card from Canada via Indian Embassy
Question: Dear sir,
good afternoon my name is Remedios Mascarenhas Im an foreign worker in canada and would like to knoe if ui can
apply for my aadhar card in our embassy in canda if yes can plsease guide me as in what are the thing i need for my
aadhar card.
thanks
Answer: Indian embassies and Consulate abroad do not accept or provide Aadhaar Card services. All applicants for a
new Aadhaar Card MUST be present in India.
The reason for Aadhaar Card applicants to be present in India is that before Aadhaar Card is issued the applicants
Biometric Data such as Iris, Fingerprints and Facial Photograph need to be recorded and included on the Aadhaar Card on
a Chip. So applicants have to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Center in India to enable them to record biometric data.
Indian Embassies and Consulates abroad so far do not have such facilities. We are into 2019 now and I am not aware of
any indication from the Indian government that in future Indian Embassies may provide Aadhaar services to non-
residents. Since Aadhaar is only for Indian residents, I doubt if applicants will be able to ever apply for Aadhaar from
abroad.
