Q.1233 Marriage registration in India for British Citizen without NOC
Question: Hello,
I'm a British Citizen and I have a OCI card. I'm planning to have my marriage in India so we need to register, for that
they require NOC but British stopped doing NOCs.
When I showed them the letter from the British government about NOCs they didn't accept it. Is there any other way of
having marriage registration in India?
Thank you
Answer: As you state the British High Commission in India is no longer issuing No Objection Certificate [NOC] that are
required for marriage registrations in India. This has been the case for quite some time now, they stopped issuing NOC
for marriage as of August 2013.
According to the UK government, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has been informed of this. Some Registrars
may not be aware of this.
The British government suggest that those who require NOC should download ‘Marriage Information Note on NOC
from their website and present this document to registrars in lieu of NOC.
