Q.1234 Minor Son with Australian citizenship stay in India permanently
Question: Hi
My question is, My son is 9yrs old. He got Australian Citizenship and Australian PP in 2016. Now I m planning to go India
permanently. So is that possible he can stay in India forever. And renew his pp every 5 yrs.
Answer: Regardless of age, all foreigners living in India must have a valid visa that allows them to stay in India. In your
case, perhaps you should apply for OCI registration for your Son and this would allow him to stay in India as long as he
wishes.
Do note that despite OCI:
Your son must maintain a valid Australian passport, which means he must get it renewed as required, perhaps every
five years if passport validity expires in five years.
Since your Son has not reached the age of 20 years yet, he must also renew his OCI status each time he renews his
passport, up to the completion of 20 years of age.
