Q.1262 Bank has no SWIFT Code - Send money to US bank with
Routing Number . . .
Question: sir,
i would like to send money from india to usa for my son through Reberalised Remittence Scheme. (LRS)
The bank where he is having,Account in usa , does not have any SWIFFT code, but only Routing Number . Can i
remitte money through that bank by using the Routing Number?
please help me sir,
regards,
Answer: My understanding is that both SWIFT code and Routing Numbers are used to transfer money. SWIFT codes
are generally used to transfer money internationally and Routing Numbers are used in the United States to transfer
money domestically. All banks dealing with international money wire transfers have a SWIFT code.
Does your son have a bank account in a credit union? Some credit unions may not have a SWIFT code. While
international wire transfers may be possible with Routing number, some banks may be reluctant to do international
wire transfers to a financial institution that does not have a SWIFT code.
The best source of information for you would be to speak to your bank in India and they can advise you what is
required to remit funds.
