Q.1263 Flight departs India two hours after visa expires!

Question: I am a Nigerian on a fellowship to India. I would like to ask what are my options. My flight from India was booked by my funding agency for 25th August, 2am, but my visa expires on 24th August. There was a mix-up that caused this. Am I also going to be regarded as an offender for the 2 hours overstay in India? What are my options please? Thanks Answer: My suggestion would be to get a visa extension so you do not face any problems at the point of exit at the airport from an overzealous officer who may notice the two hour difference of your visa expiry and departure time. Actually despite being only two hours the date will change!

How to apply for visa extension in India

Foreigners who are already in India can apply for visa and Immigration related services such as ‘Registration, Visa Extension, Visa Conversion, Exit Permit etc.’ through the Foreigner Registration Office (FRRO) Some time back people could simply go to the nearest FRRO office. Now things are done online and we have the eFRRO. Go to the eFRRO website and here you can create a User ID and Password to use on the FRRO site. Next step is to login to the eFRRO website using your ID & Password that you created and apply for the visa extension. The link to the eFRRO website is: https://indianfrro.gov.in/eservices/home.jsp When you are on their webpage check the ‘How to Apply’ menu as this will explain the application procedure. The process is fairly simple. It would help if you have a local mobile number as communication is sent generally through email/SMS alerts. In many cases if documents are in order a visit to the FRRO may not even be required
