Question: Hi, I want to carry 32 inch television to India,Punjab. I am not sure whether there will be any customs on it. Could you please tell me whether there will be any custom on it. Thanks & Regards, Tilak Raj Answer: In the past, Television sets could be taken to India as part of a passenger’s duty free allowance. Television sets up to Rupees 35000 usually qualified for duty free import. However, from August 26, 2013 the Government of India decided to impose customs duty on LCD/LED/Plasma television sets brought into India by passengers. The customs duty on television sets taken as part of baggage no longer qualify for any duty free allowance and customs duty has to be paid.

Passengers importing TV sets to India will now have to pay customs duty @ 35% plus educational cess tax of 3% making the total duty on television sets to be 36.05 percent.
