Q700. NRI Cell Haryana Police | NRI Property complaints in Haryana, India

Question: Hello, Is there any place we can file a complaint for the ground floor owner who is not letting anyone to see our property we want to sell which is first floor. I know there are NRI cells in Punjab but whet about in Haryana? We are NRI living in Canada. Please advise Thanks Anita Answer: Several years ago there were news reports stating that Haryana Police had decided to set up a NRI cell at the headquarters of the State Crime Branch at Moginand, district Panchkula. However I doubt if any of this ever came into effect. There is no mention of a NRI cell on the Haryana Police website that I could find. Property disputes in India are not easy for resolve even for local residents and near impossible for non-residents who live thousands of miles away in different time zones. If you can provide proof that the down stairs owner is not allowing access to the top floor that you own, you could file a police complaint at the local police station. Some of your options that come to mind: Send someone you trust in India a Power of Attorney to handle this problem on your behalf Hire a lawyer in India to handle this for you, of course there are no guarantees that the lawyer will not take this as an opportunity to prolong the dispute to make as much money as possible. You could go to India yourself and try and sell your property. Be prepared for a long stay if you take this option. Find a broker to sell the property. A smart broker will find a way to show and sell the property. However, don’t expect to get full market value under such circumstances. The down stairs owner probably knows that you are an NRI and he has the upper hand as you cannot be present to fight for your rights. Once you get the right party to handle things on your behalf in India, the equation will change. If you decide to get someone to handle this for you in India, you need to make sure that the person handling your affairs does not connive with the other party for monetary gain. Find someone you can trust!
