Q587. Police officers applying for OCI . . .
Question: Hello,
I have read your answer in relation to post 461 where a serving police officer has
applied for OCI status.
I can confirm that (Bham consulate) have informed me that OCI will NOT be
issued to members of the police profession.
I applied for such, my paperwork was all complete as my father has OCI.... I was
told by the clerk that all my documentation was in order, my application was
accepted but decision to grant OCI rejected.
To say the least, this is very frustrating as my whole family have one bit me
simply because of the job I do.Please can you clarify what the current situation is
with this subject of 'discrimination' with serving police officers.
If you know of any policy, agreement etc where police officers can apply and be
successful then I will be very keen to hear/learn about this, as I am sure all
serving officers reading this will.
I look forward to your reply

Answer: I know of no policy where the
government denies OCI to police officers. Denial
for OCI can be for many reasons and since I am
not in any way associated with the government
of India, I have no insight of the reasons why
an OCI application may have been rejected.
I have been hosting this website NRI FAQ
section for the last seven years and so far, you
are the second person to mention denial of OCI
to police officers.
My answer to question number 461 still stands! I am still not aware of any policy
announced by the government of India stating that police officers cannot get OCI.
You state in your email “I can confirm that (Bham consulate) have informed me
that OCI will NOT be issued to members of the police profession” Has the Indian
consulate given you in writing that OCI will not be issued to members of the
police profession? I find this hard to comprehend.
If there are any police officers who have successfully applied for OCI, I would appreciate hearing from them so this issue can
be put to rest.
