Q.928 Get Life Certificate for pension from local bank abroad
Question: Sir,
I just saw a reply from you to a query about pension certificate. Can I have a Life Certificate from my Local US bank
to be sent to my bank in India, in addition to getting the same from Indian Embassy in the US.
Please reply to my email.
Thanks,
Chanderlal ranga
Answer: Rules set by the authorities require that pensioner’s submit life certificate issued by:
•
A authorized official of Indian Embassy/High Commission of India or Consul of Indian Consulates
•
Notary Public or an Officer of an Indian Authorized Bank attached to its branch in the country where the
pensioner is residing.
o
Authorized bank would mean for example a branch of State Bank of India abroad where you may have an
account.
Any deviation of the rules and the chances are the document will not be accepted.
I realize that what you suggest may make it easier for many Indian pensioners settled abroad who need to submit
life certificates in November every year to continue receiving their pensions. However, I doubt officials in India would
entertain anything that does not fall within the set rules.
