India is already notarized in Alberta, Canada

Question: Im a Canadian citizen in Edmonton AB and am giving my brother POA to sell our land in India. I have a notarized power of attorney. Does that still need to be registered with Indian consulate here in Canada? There is no office in Edmonton, closest is Vancouver. My brother is going to take it to India. Regards Answer: The Power of Attorney [POA] you are sending for selling land in India will probably not be accepted by Indian Registrar unless it has the seal of the Indian consulate. The basic procedure is the once you get the document notarized by a local notary in Alberta; which you have already done, your POA document must also be authenticated by the Deputy Provincial Secretary of Alberta before sending to Indian consulate for attestation. Documents are not registered at Indian Consulates abroad but only attested. The registration of the document such as a POA is done in India. Visit the Indian Consulate Vancouver website to view the procedure of sending documents by mail for attestation. V6C-1Z7. If mailing them documents double check their address from official Consulate website. To get document authenticated by the Deputy Provincial Secretary of Alberta the procedure is to submit the notarized document and required fee which I believe is currently ten Canadian dollars can be submitted either in person or by mail to Deputy Provincial Secretary’s Office, Room 111, Bowker Building, 9833 109 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5K 2E8.
