Q.1295 Got OCI when 49 years and 11 months old. Must I apply for
re-issue of OCI?
Question: My OCI was issued to me on 7.8. 2008 when I was aged 49 years and 11 months. My date of birth is
16.09.1958 and I hold a British Passport.
Do I have to get my OCI card re-issued as I was only one month under the age of 50 when my OCI was issued. Any
help in this matter would be appreciated.
Thanking you,
Yours Sincerely
Answer: I can only highlight the rules currently spelled out by the authorities and these rules specify that once an
OCI holder becomes 50 years or more, they must get fresh OCI documents when they renew their passport.
There is no exemption mentioned in the rules of a grace period for those who may have been close to 50 years of
age when they initially got their OCI in the rules.
If you want a definite answer, then only the concerned government authorities can provide this to you.
