Question: Hi there , this is ****** . I got in tough situation. Really don't know what to do ?? I am looking for advise on the matter I m going to share below.I would like to share my genuine problem with you . I am going write in steps what exactly happened and how I got in and where I am at the moment. 1. I am Canadian Passport and OCI holder. During my trip to India I lost my Canadian Passport and OCI together. I reported to local police and they files FIR for it. 2. Very next after filing FIR at local police authority. I contacted Canadian high commission Delhi via phone and email. They replied to me to take further steps to get new temporary passport because I didn't had much time to fly. 3. After 5 working days I got temporary Canadian Passport for one year expire validity. 4. As soon as I got my Temporary Canadian Passport. I reported FRRO office in Delhi for exit permit. I applied exit permit three days ago. Current status for exit permit " in process". 5 . I posted on social media saying I lost my Passport and OCI. Through social media it's spread it out every where and I got my Passport and OCI back finally. I am so happy I got my stuff back. Other side it's too late because I got my Temporary Canadian Passport with new number on it. 6. Tomorrow morning is Monday . FRRO offices were closed in weekend. I am thinking I must report physically FRRO office very early in morning as soon as it opens and ask them what are the alternates now ?? Because OCI has old Canadian Passport number . 7. I have applied regular Canadian Passport which I m going to get in Canada after I reach there. I really don't know if regular Canadian Passport I m going to get gonna be have same old passport number ?? 8. If new regular Canadian Passport has same old number then I can use same OCI card or not ?? If not what are the steps I must take to change passport number on OCI card or I do have to file new application?? 9. If I can use it . Then it's great. Still do I should to take any necessary steps ?? Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Answer: In my opinion you should now notify the authorities [FRRO & police where FIR was filed] that you have found your lost passport and OCI booklet. Find out whether your OCI was cancelled when you reported it lost. FRRO could confirm if OCI has been cancelled or not and advise you how to proceed. If your OCI has already been cancelled and you get an exit visa from FRRO. You should be able to travel to Canada. To get a replacement of your OCI you can apply online for replacement of your OCI through OCI Miscellaneous services. Keep the police FIR report copy as this will be required. ALL OCI holders should keep a record of their OCI registration number or ‘U Visa’ number in a safe location as this number helps when requesting replacement of OCI. Regarding your Canadian passport be informed that as soon as you report a passport stolen to the Canadian authorities, the passport is immediately cancelled. You should travel on the new temporary passport issued to you. The lost passport that you later recovered should be returned to the Canadian passport authorities with a letter specifying the circumstances of your passport loss and recovery. Every new passport will have its own unique number. So the next passport you get will not have your pervious passport number. As per current rules there is no requirement to update OCI with new passport numbers when a passport is reissued. There is also no need to carry your old passport that is mentioned on your OCI card if you have received a new valid passport. Check Nriinformation.com FAQ section for more detailed information.
