Q732. Transfer of Residence after 35 years abroad . . .

Question: Hello Sir, I would like to know if i take TR to take the benefit of custom duty, will i be able to go abroad (US) within six months to visit my son in US.Can i keep my NRI status by staying 182 days in US. Earlier i have not taken any transfer of residence in last 35 years by any of my family member. Thanks Regards, Gujar C.P. Sent from my Ipad Answer: Several years ago, there was a condition of compulsory stay in India for one year after availing the benefit of Transfer of Residence for customs duties. This condition has been removed and you should be able to leave India after TR whenever you wish to leave. The only condition is that you cannot claim TR again for three years.
