Q750. Get back Indian citizenship to work for Indian government
Question: I have been living in Canada for the last 4years now i have become a Canadian citizen 2 months back. Now i want to
return back to India. I want to pursue a government job in India.
i can give up Canadian citizenship. If i do so and start living in India, will i be Indian national then?
I have been living in India for 28 years before coming to Canada.
Jasmine
Answer: Since you are now a Canadian citizen you cannot work for the Indian government in any capacity.
Simply renouncing Canadian citizenship will not automatically give you your Indian citizenship back, you may have to apply again
for Indian citizenship.
Since you acquired Canadian citizenship only two months ago, your best bet is to contact the nearest Indian consulate and seek
guidance. Do remember that as per rules of the government of India, you need to surrender your Indian passport and renounce
Indian citizenship after acquiring foreign citizenship.
