Q751. When must current OCI holders transfer or renew OCI lifelong visa

Question: Hi I came across this on your website from Foreign Ministry. http://nriinformation.com/articles4/new_oci_visa.htm I am travelling to India next month. And this is very helpful. Can you please confirm to me: 1. The government website source where I can see this original document 2. Also, is this really true? I called Cox and Kings they advised me to re-apply for OCI for my kids as their US passports expire. They have LIFELONG OCI issued to them in 2005. So why they are misguiding me? Thanks Dipesh Mehta Answer Regarding your questions: 1. You should find the document on the website of any the Indian consulates. For instance for this particular document, HERE is the link to the New York consulate page, when on the page, click on the link that says: Dispense with requirement of "U" visa stickers on the foreign passports of OCI card holders You should be able to view the document if they have not yet removed it. 2. I doubt if Cox and Kings are misguiding you! while OCI visa is indeed specified to be for lifelong. However, as per rules of the Government of India, there is: o A requirement to get fresh OCI documents every time a new passport is issued to OCI holders until they reach age 20. o Renewal is required once more for OCI holder’s after completion of 50 years of age when they get a new passport to replace their expired passport.
