Question: I wondered if you could help answer the following question. Can you return to the UK on an emergency travel document from India if you have lost your Indian passport whilst on holiday in India. This is regarding a child who was travelling with a parent and has an Indian passport? Since the child whose passport has been lost held an Indian passport, the parents would have to approach the Indian authorities for a new replacement passport. In order to apply for replacement passport where a passport has been lost. The loss/theft of the passport has to be reported to the nearest police station as soon as possible. The passport office in India also needs to be notified, preferably the passport office that issued the lost passport. To get a duplicate Indian passport where the original has been lost: A new application has to be filed A copy of the police report of the loss/theft of passport must be attached to the new passport application form A copy of the lost passport if available should also be attached as this would be quite helpful. Kindly be aware that the new passport will not have any entry stamp or UK visa and this may cause difficulty at the departure point when returning to UK. To sort this out the UK consulate in India and FRRO office should be able to offer guidance.
