Q.1042 OCI Stamp on Passport

Question: Hello hope this email finds you well, i wanted to enquire the procedure for an OCI stamp on the passport. My dad's passport was lost, and got a new one done. Kindly let me know what the procedure is to have an OCI stamp on his new passport Your responce will be highly appreciated Thank you Regards Janki Bhatt Answer: The Government of India issued notification to Indian consulates vide notice No. 26011/06/2015 – OCI dated 29th January, 2015 dispensing with the requirement of 'U' visa sticker on the foreign passport of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holder. Previously OCI documents consisted of the blue OCI registration booklet and a multiple lifelong 'U' (Universal) Visa sticker which was pasted on the OCI registrant’s passport. To travel to India: Before: OCI registrants had to carry with them their original passports where the OCI ‘U’ visa was stamped AND the OCI registration booklet. This procedure no longer applies. Now: When traveling to India, OCI registrants only need to carry their OCI registration booklet along with a valid passport. Consulates I would assume are no longer stamping the OCI visa on passports of OCI registrants as the OCI booklet [Registration Certificate] is now valid proof of OCI status.
