Q.1051 Status of NRI Bank Accounts if no Aadhaar Card?
Question: Dear Sir,
It is mandatory from now to have an Aadhar card for a bank account in India. I do not live in India and so cannot apply for
one. How do I operate my Indian Bank A/CS and what happens to my funds?
I thank you
Bipin Rathore
Answer: The deadline announced by the government for linking bank accounts is December 31, 2017. How this affects
NRIs living abroad I have explained in an article on this website titled: ‘ Aadhaar Card Now Compulsory for banking –
Effect on NRIs’ to view the article use the link provided below: http://nriinformation.com/articles6/aadhaar-compulsory-
nri.htm
Rest assured, funds of NRIs in bank accounts will be safe. Some people with resident bank accounts will not be able to
access their bank accounts to avail banking facilities unless they provide their Aadhaar card number to their banks by
December 31, 2017, but their money will be safe!
