Q.1146 Six month passport validity rule to enter USA Information
Question: My and my daughter will be going to visit my son in New Jersey USA in May 2018. We already have tourist visa
to visit. I have a question about my passport. I have heard that passport must have six months validity from the time I
arrive in USA.
My daughter’s passport is fine as it is valid for more than 4 years but my passport will expire five months and 8 days of our
USA arrival date. We will be in USA for only 60 days. Do I have to get new passport before leaving.
Answer: Visitors arriving in USA are required to have passport validity of at least six months beyond their period of
intended stay. However there is good news for you. Some countries are exempt from the six month passport validity rule
in USA and India is one of the countries. You only need to have a passport that is valid to cover the period of your stay in
USA.

2016. Please be informed that rules and regulations can change at any time and it is best to confirm with the concerned
authorities the latest regulations before departure.
