Q.1227 Got OCI for Kids 11 years ago. Is OCI renewal required now?
Question: Hello,
My family had taken OCI about 11 years ago in USA. We have not been to India since then. We never used OCI documents
to visit India after we received the passport and documents with OCI stamped.
We are planning a trip to India this year. When we apply for OCI, kids were 4 yr and 1 yr old. Now, kids have grown up after
11 years and they look different.
Also, OCI was stamped in old passports for all of us. We have now new passports.
Questions:
Do we need to renew any OCI documents?
Do we need OCI stamped on new passports?
Thank you in advance for any information.
Answer: Regarding your questions:
1.
On whether you need new OCI documents. Your kids definitely require renewal of their OCI as most passports are
valid for 10 or less years. As per regulations renewal is required “Each time a new passport is issued up to the
completion of 20 years of age”
You don’t mention your age so I cannot say whether you require OCI renewal or not. If your OCI registration was
done before you had turned 50 years of age, then you would also require renewal once.
2.
You do not need OCI stamped on new passports. As per new rules only OCI booklet is sufficient proof of being an OCI
holder
