Q.1276 Difference between NRI and Indian resident Pan Card
Question: Dear sir,
I have a question regarding NRI Pan card and Normal Pan card .
I am a Indian. I have got a Indian Pan card.
Now I am working in UK past 10 months .
Do I need to apply for a NRI Pan card.
Kindly give your advice.
Thanks
Answer: Pan cards issued to NRIs are similar to the Pan cards issued to Indian citizens. There is nothing on the Pan
cards that would identify the card holder as a resident or non-resident. While addresses are recorded on the Pan issuing
authorities data base it is not shown on the Pan card.
The only difference between resident and non-resident Pan Card application forms is the documentation required. The
Indian citizen Pan Card application form specifies documents required for Indian citizens and the applicable fee in India.
On the other hand the foreigners form, specifies the documents required for verification purposes and applicable fee
from foreigners, such as PIOs/OCI holders.
Individuals can have only one Pan Card. Instead of applying for new Pan you can get your address changed in the pan
card data base by using the online facilities provided to make corrections to Pan Card. Here is the link to the online
