Q715. Parents traveling to India with OCI visa on expired U.S. passport

Question: Hello,

I just found out that OCI card have to be re-stamp to the new US passport. My grand father and mother currently have OCI

cards and they are traveling to India on November 26th, 2014 and returning on February 28th, 2015.

I read on your site that carrying the OLD PASSPORT with U stamp along with the OCI booklet and new US passport should

be good enough. Both passangers got their OCI after age 50.

Do I still need to apply for OCI transfer to the new US passport?

Answer: Your grandfather and mother can relax! As long as they carry with them: 1. Their old passport where the original OCI ‘U’ visa is stamped 2. The OCI booklet 3. Their current, valid US passport, They should have no problem. I have traveled to India several times taking my old OCI passport along without encountering any problems. The immigration officers are aware of the rules. When the new passport does not show a visa or OCI stamp, they will ask for your old passport to see the OCI visa.
