Foreigners Regional Registration Office Guide
Foreigners' registration work in India is handled by the Bureau of Immigration. The officers, in charge of immigration and registration activities of foreigners, are called Foreigners Regional Registration Officers. Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRRO), are located in major cities of India. They have offices in: • Delhi • Mumbai • Kolkata • Chennai • Amritsar • Bangalore • Hyderabad • Kozhikode (Calicut) • Kochi (Cochin) • Lucknow • Hyderabad • Thiruvananthapuram In cities across India, where there are no FRRO offices, the concerned 'District Superintendents of Police' function as Foreigners Registration Officers. When there is a requirement to register at the FRRO and no FRRO office is in the city you are in, the District Superintendents of Police should be contacted.Services at FRRO Offices
Generally the following services are preformed: Visa Extensions: Tourist visas are generally non-extendable; however, in cases of persons of Indian origin, after submission of relevant documents to the satisfaction of the authorities, tourist visa may be extended. Issue exit visas. Registration of foreigners in India as per their visa requirements. Accept OCI and PIO card applications at their offices in Amritsar, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai,Checklist for Registration Formalities at FRRO
All foreigners visiting India, who have visas for a period exceeding 6 months duration, are required to get themselves registered within 14 days of their arrival, at the nearest office of the FRRO. Those who have PIO cards or OCI are exempt from the registration requirement. The type of documents one would require would depend on the type of service being sought from the FRRO. A list of the type of documents that are generally required is provided here: Original passport on which visa is endorsed. Photocopy of the passport and initial visa. Four photographs of the applicant. Details of residence in India. Those who are visiting India on a long term visa of more than one year and are in the age group of 15 to 60 years. Require a HIV test report, from one of the WHO recognized Institutions. Copy of the marriage certificate, in case of those seeking extension of stay on grounds of being the spouse of an Indian national. Certificate from the University, College, or Institution in case of Student visa. Accreditation certificate from Press Information Bureau in case of Journalist visa. Approval of the Department of Company Affairs in case of Board level appointments in Public Limited Companies. Copy of the approval from Government of India in case of a joint venture or collaboration. Copy of permission from the RBI in case of contract or agreement, in case of business/joint ventures etc. Terms and conditions of appointment and copy of contract or agreement, in case of Employment visa. An undertaking from the concerned Indian company in case of Employment/Business visas. A sample of the undertaking form is provided.

India - Who must register?
All foreigners including foreigners of Indian origin who do not have OCI or PIO cards and are visiting India on a visa validity of more than 180 days are required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) in the jurisdiction where they will be staying. This must be done within 14 days of arrival in India. Pakistan nationals are required to register within 24 hours of their arrival. In some cases even if stay is not going to be for more than 180 days, registration may be required if an endorsement has been made to this effect on the foreigner’s visa.
