Q.789 Make changes to old PAN Card Record - AO Code for NRIs to use . . .

Question: I wanted to have your opinion on the following: " I have PAN number issued to me 15 years back when I was Resident Indian and as per PAN number I have the AO/WARD number. I became NRI some 8 years back till date. Now I want to file return to get the TAX REFUND since, tax has been deducted for quite substantial amount. My question is where to submit the RETURN? IS it as per the AO/WARD as specified per my PAN Number or should I file it to the International Taxaxation ward (as listed for new NRI PAN application- AO/WARD search)." Your reply shall help me a lot to file the return online to get the refund of tax. With warm regards, Joy Sarkar Answer: Non-residents who are not aware of the AO Code can select the default AO Code which is DLC-C-35-1 Changes to your PAN Card details can be done online by submitting the Changes Or Correction in PAN Data (PAN Change Request Form) This way your address etc. will be updated in the income tax database. Update your PAN Card Information Here is a link to Information on how to fill and submit online application : https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/correction.html To access the actual application form to submit changes. Use the link above, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the ‘Individual’ category to view the actual form. Perhaps you should first ensure your information such as address etc. is updated and then file your return using the AO code applicable.
