Q.802 Travel to USA during pregnancy . . .

Question: Hi, My husband is a H1B visa holder and I have H4 visa. Now we both are in India. We are planning to travel to USA in 3 or 4 months, but i am 45 days pregnant. Is it possible for me to travel to USA during Pregnancy and deliver my child abroad? your reply will be grateful for me thank you. Malini Answer: Whether you can travel to USA from India during pregnancy as far as health issues are concerned, depends on your health and advice from your doctor. As far as legality of travel to USA during pregnancy, there are no regulations that I am aware of that prohibit pregnant women from entering the United States with a valid visa. However, there are a few things you should be aware of: You will need medical insurance coverage in the United States. At your entry point in USA, the U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers can deny entry if they are of the opinion that the U.S govt may have to provide you with medical care. Your husband’s employer in the United States may have offered medical coverage as part of his employment benefit, however many insurance policies have a waiting period before coverage becomes effective. Ensure that your US medical coverage will not have any waiting period before maternity expenses are covered before arriving in the United States as you will be almost five months pregnant on arrival. For any concerns or doubts you may have, check with the American Consulate in India. Airlines may also have some policies and restrictions on allowing travel by ladies during advanced stages of pregnancy.
