Q.819 Customs duty on LCD TV taken to India . . .

Question: Hi Sir,

I am an OCI holder from Singapore. I wish to bring my used 32 inches TV which was purchased 3 years before. Will I need to pay a customs charge? Please let me know, Thanks with Regards, Chris [November 5, 2015] Answer: Prior to August 2013 one TV set worth up to Rupees 35,000 could be taken to India for personal use as part of the arriving passenger’s duty free allowance without paying any customs duty. However effective August 26, 2013 TV import is no longer allowed duty free. The duty is around 35% (plus taxes) unless the TV is being taken to India under Transfer of Residence facility.
