Q. 811 NRI Parents safety in India - which department to contact and how
Question: Hi,
I am concerned about the safety of my parents staying alone in Delhi. I am not sure how to help them? Whom to contact and
how?
My old and lonely parents are being teased by their neighbor. We already have FIR registered against him but police is still not
taking any action.
He is threatening my parents that their will be firing soon.
Being working in Netherlands, we are not able to visit parents so often but it kept us worried.
Could you please help me understanding whom should I contact and how to proceed on this?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Rahul Gupta

Answer: Here are a few suggestions that may help you or perhaps other NRIs seeking information to help senior
parents residing alone in Delhi, India:
•
Click HERE to go to the Delhi Police Senior Citizen Cell site. Here you will find information on the various services
available to senior citizens living alone in Delhi such as:
o
Helping the Senior Citizens in case of their personal problems
o
Coordinate safety & security of Senior Citizens with the help of Area Police.
o
Monitoring of registered Senior Citizens by interacting on Telephone on regular basis & more . . .
•
Use the registration link shown below to register your parents in the Delhi seniors police program.
o
http://www.delhipolice.nic.in/seniorcitizen/addnew.aspx
•
Contact information of appropriate persons: http://www.delhipolice.nic.in/seniorcitizen/contact-us.htm Do
not hesitate to contact any and everyone by phone and email. Tell them no action taken on your earlier complaint
by local police.
•
How to you know the FIR is registered? Do you have a copy of the FIR? If threats are continuing after your police
complaint and nothing is being done by police, then contact in writing senior police officers.
•
Seek help from a lawyer if you are unable to go to India to help your parents.
•
Contact the area MLA and seek help. Numbers and contact info is available on Internet.
I can understand your concerns and it is indeed a sad situation for elderly people to live in fear. If you can make the trip
to India then you may be able to resolve these issues faster.
