Q.851 Status of Indian Pension after acquiring foreign citizenship

Question: Madam/Sir Your NRI Information Service is highly appreciated. I have a questions:- 1) My spouse who Retired from Central Government Pension in India acquired US Citizenship. Now she holds an OCI Card. Will she looses her Indian Government Pension? State bank of India is saying that once one becomes NRI or Surrender Indian Citizenship loses his/her Government Pension. Please Guide with reference to the Government Ruling. 2) Can She apply for Adhar Card and How? Thanks Anand, Madan [February 13, 2016] Answer: Answers to pensions and Aadhaar for Persons of Indian Origin has already posted on this website. I believe the information State Bank of India has provided you is not correct. The change in the citizenship by a Non-Resident Indian pensioner does not affect their entitlement to their pension. I am posting a link to the Government of India website for the page that deals with the rules/procedure of NRIs getting their pension. To view CLICK HERE Aadhaar card is only for residents. If she is living in the United States then currently she cannot get Aadhaar. However, there are some indications that in future this may change. In August 2015, Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh had indicated by way of a written reply in the Lok Sabha of the Indian governments intention of allowing Aadhaar enrollment to PIOs, OCI and NRIs. However no time frame has been announced so far. When something is announced I will post it on NriInformation.com
