Question: Hi,
I am an Indian citizen currently residing in Tashkent Uzbekistan. As per the Customs rule, if a person has lived
abroad for over a year, a person can buy jewelry worth-
50,000 - for gentlemen
100000- for women
I am coming to India after almost 10 months. I want to purchase some regular jewellery for family. Upto how much
INR can I buy for.

Answer: The amounts of Rupees 50,000 for women and 100,000 for men that you mention as ‘Customs rule’ are
actually refers to the duty free allowance allowed when jewelry is brought in to India by a passenger as part of their
baggage allowance.
There is no restriction on the value of jewelery that visitors to India can purchase while visiting India. There is
generally no Indian customs duty on goods being taken out of India by a passenger as part of their baggage as long
as they are for personal and not for commercial purposes.
